Department Halloween Party Potluck Invite (2016)

Hello all,

Do you want to hear a scary story?

It is the day of the Statistics Department Halloween Party, and all of Sequoia is abuzz with excitement. Anxiously looking at their watches, the students, faculty, and staff rejoice when 4:30 finally arrives.

All gallop excitedly to the lounge, full of laughter and good Halloween cheer. But then, walking in, they see a terrifying sight.

No food.

None.

A collective gasp. Then a scream goes up from somewhere in the crowd. The terrified first-year PhDs begin running in circles, shouting “sigma-algebra!” to anyone who will listen. Someone pours Sriracha on a Stats 305 homework and presents it as an offering.

Dismayed professors shake their heads and return to their offices. No researcher corrects for multiple hypothesis testing, ever again.

Don’t let this be your future.
Sign up to bring a dish to the Halloween Potluck!

Thanks,

Evan
